Hello 👋,
I’m René.

ABOUT
A bit of background.
I studied computer science at the University of Salzburg: a bachelor’s degree in 2016 with a thesis on penetration testing of mail servers, a master’s degree in data science in 2024 with a thesis on penetration testing and security strategies for web applications, and a master’s degree in computer science in 2026, passed with distinction, with a thesis on security concepts and practices for containerised cloud infrastructures.
University politics at the ÖH and the University of Salzburg were a big part of my student years. I spent six years in the University Senate, at the end as its second vice chair, chaired the student representation for computer science and for the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the same time, later the one for the Faculty of Digital and Analytical Sciences, looked after the mathematics students for a while, tutored Unix and databases for many semesters, and mentored newcomers in the PLUS Track programme. That chapter is closed now, and I look back on it with a smile and a little wistfulness.
Before founding Thaler Software GmbH in 2017 I was self-employed for eight years and worked as a developer and project manager at two software companies. Along the way I co-authored three papers on image compression in medical imaging and face detection.
3D Printing

I started 3D printing in 2014 and have designed and customised several printers since. Today I print with my customised white Prusa MK3S. My designs are free to download on Printables.
